Early Life/ Childhood
On June 12th, 1929, at a hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, Edith Frank gave birth to a beautiful Annelies Marie Frank. Little did Otto and Edith know, that their daughter would soon become a famous figure in world history.
Although their family was very rich, Anne had a rough life. Being in a German-Jewish family, the Franks were always on the lookout. Soon after Anne was born, Adolf Hitler went into action, taking over. As a result, Anne and her family moved to Amsterdam. They spent most of their life there. Otto, Anne's dad, knew that they were going to have to go into hiding soon, so for her 13th birthday, he bought her a diary to write in during those times so she wouldn't blurt anything out to anybody.
In 1944, the Gestapo moved to where Anne and her family were currently living, and started taking Jews to concentration camps to die. At that point, the Franks went into hiding. They were isolated in the family businesses attic for 2 years. Anne only talked to her family and she never went outside. She called this place The Secret Annex. For those 2 years, Anne recorded her fears, hopes, and thoughts in her diary EVERYDAY. She even named it Kitty.
And then the day came. The day that Anne's life would change forever .
On August 4, 1944, the Gestapo found and captured Anne, her older sister Margot, and her mother and father. Whether it was the family not turning their lights off at dusk, leaving their curtains open, or trying in any way to connect with the public, they were going to be captured and taken to a place where they were treated like animals, and where they would surely die just because they were Jewish. The concentration camp they were taken to was called Bergen Belsen, in Germany. As for Anne's dad, he was taken to a different place, but he would never be allowed to see his wife or children again. Anne's mom died of an unknown illness and poor Anne never knew. Shortly after arriving at Bergen Belsen, Anne died of Typhus, a common disease at the time, one day before her sister Margot died of the same disease.
Just think; all of this could have been prevented if Jews weren't targeted. Just because they believed in something different than what somebody else did, millions of innocent children and adults died....
